Description
Stampless registered cover to Kathmandu, struck with choice ornate seal of the Kerong Court in Tibet, carried by runner to the Nepalese Post Office at Rasuwa, with Sun and Moon c.d.s., one year earlier than the currently documented ERD, very fine examples of these scarce strikes.
Under the Thapatail Treaty of 1855, Nepalese courts were established in the Tibetan towns of Khasa, Kuti, and Kurong, to handle legal cases involving Nepalese citizens. Mail from these courts was struck with the appropriate court seal, and carried with free-franking privileges by couriers to nearby Nepalese border towns.
