Description
Stampless registered cover to Kathmandu, Nepal, struck with ornate seal of the Kerong Court in Tibet, carried via runner to the Nepalese Post Office in Rasuwa, with Sun and Moon c.d.s. small court official oval handstamp, small corner fault and typical wrinkling and edge faults, a pleasing example with all markings on the same side.
Under the Thapatail Treaty of 1855, Nepalese courts were established in the Tibetan towns of Khasa, Kuti, and Kurong, to handle legal cases involving Nepalese citizens. Mail from these courts was struck with the appropriate court seal, and carried with free-franking privileges by couriers to nearby Nepalese border towns.
