Cover franked with 10c brown on rose horizontal pair, 80c rose single Ceres, tied by 611 "Gros Chiffres" of Brest, postmarked with corresponding c.d.s. (28 Jul), to the French Consulate in Quebec, addressed to a Lieutenant on board a ship at Quebec, red London PAID transit on front, with Paris (28 Jul), Paris Etranger (28 Jul), and Quebec (11 Aug) backstamps, opening tears to back flap with some pieces removed, a scarce franking and surprisingly difficult destination.

(31 Jan), to Santiago de Chile, red boxed "P.P." and blue-two line "Voie de Southampton / Voie de Panama", 80c pair further tied by red London PAID transit (2 Feb), red "25" Chilean tax mark at lower left, denoting the fee from Valparaiso to Santiago, no backstamps, adhesives with chiefly bright colour, small tear at left of 40c, a rare and most attractive entire paying the double rate to the Pacific Coast of South America; with 1998 von der Weid certificate. (16 Oct), adjacent Dijon c.d.s. of same-day, oval "BM" (Boite Mobile) and red boxed PD, to Mulhausen, with fine strike of Mulhausen-Elsass horsehoe (Hufeisenstempel) (17 Oct), a beautiful and scarce cover, the Bureau de Passe c.d.s. being particularly desirable tying the adhesives, further complemented by the Boite Mobile usage and horsehoe receiver.
