Cover struck with clear “Chio Poste Russe Gratuit” negative seal (Tchilinghirian 8), with matching “ROPit CHIOS 7 XII 1912” c.d.s., to Athens, with machine arrival backstamp, fine and scarce.
For a short period following the October, 1912 Greek Occupation of Chios during the First Balkan War, mail was handled postage free by the ROPIT Agency.

Sierra Leone 1907 SALVED FROM SS JEBBA Freetown to Southampton Disaster Mail Cover
1d KEVII postal stationery cover, postmarked Freetown (26 Feb), to Southampton, England, handstamped SALVED FROM / SS JEBBA (Hoggarth & Gwynn Type 1), with Mokamba (Feb 25) and Southampton (19 Mar) c.d.s. backstamps, some faults as expected for such shipwreck mail, scarce. The S.S. Jebba, of the African Steam Ship Company, sailed from Freetown on March 4, destined for Plymouth, but ran ashore in dense fog at Bolt Tail, Devon, on 18 March; the vessel was lost, but the mail was salvaged.
