Cover franked with 4d vermilion, plate 8, tied by London "NW/8" duplex, to Paris, France, with Angl. Amb. Calais entry mark on front (14 March), same-day Paris c.d.s. arrival backstamp, imprint on back flap of the Principal Painter Ordinary, signed "G. Hayter" at lower left, light edge creases, scarce. Sir George Hayter was an English painter, appointed as Principal Painter Orindary by Queen Victoria, on the death of Sir David Wilkie, and knighted in 1841. Hayter is known for his historic and royal portraiture, including the State Portrait of Queen Victoria, as well as several scenes of the Coronation in 1838.

Folded letter, with contents, franked with 6d dull violet (Plate 8) and 2d blue (Plate 13), tied by London E.C. "98" duplex (March 17), to Athens, Greece, endorsed "Greece / via Marseille", with c.d.s. arrival backstamp, manuscript "12" (lepta) in red denoting amount due from the British Post Office to Greece, 2d with clipped perfs at top, a most attractive cover to a rare destination.

Great Britain 1871 London to Belize via LAMB & CO St. Thomas VI Stampless FL
Stampless folded letter, with contents dated 27 April and endorsed "p. W India Pk to St. Thomas", handstamped on front and back with oval anchor mark of the Forwarding Agents Lamb & Co of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, rated "4" in blue indicating the inter-island rate from St. Thomas to Belize, with Belize c.d.s. receiver (MY 30) struck on front, light yellowing from climatic influence, else a fine and scarce letter. The contents include interesting remarks regarding mail contracts, with the sender writing in favour of a route via New Orleans instead of the route via Jamaica - "I know it to be the quickest and the cheapest." Ultimately, however, in 1872 the RMSP contract was renewed when a monthly service was entered into between Belize and Jamaica
