Calais entry mark on front (14 March), same-day Paris c.d.s. arrival backstamp, imprint on back flap of the Principal Painter Ordinary, signed "G. Hayter" at lower left, light edge creases, scarce. Sir George Hayter was an English painter, appointed as Principal Painter Orindary by Queen Victoria, on the death of Sir David Wilkie, and knighted in 1841. Hayter is known for his historic and royal portraiture, including the State Portrait of Queen Victoria, as well as several scenes of the Coronation in 1838.
